THE HAMMERHEAD
The wide, flattened shape of the shark's head serves important biological functions. It provides lift, which improves the shark's swimming ability and also extends the shark's sensory systems: the eyes are placed far apart, improving its field of vision. The hammerhead reaches a maximum length of 11 feet.

ADVANCED TO EXPERT LEVELS  ::  DRIFT DIVE / WALL DIVE
Hammerhead SharksThe currents here can be strong, unpredictable, and even dangerous for the less experienced diver. Two main currents come together, one from the Philippine sea and the other from the Pacific Ocean, to meet at Peleliu Corner. Peleliu is farther away from Koror than most of the other dive sites and the area is best to dive when the weather is good.  The wall at this site, the deepest in Palau, is also known as the Yellow Wall for the abundance of yellow soft coral that covers it.  The main reason to dive here though is the possibility of seeing some of the rarer large pelagics.

You will see the usual white tip and black tip sharks at Peleliu Corner, along with large schools of barracuda, but there is also a greater chance to see some of the bigger sharks, like the silver tip and the hammerhead, which sometimes appear in large schools in the deeper water off the corner.  Peleliu Corner is considered to be one of Palau's great 'action' dives, and for advanced divers, one of the most exciting dives there is - in Palau or elsewhere.
