THE CUTTLEFISH
Cuttlefish are soft-bodied marine animals that can change both the colour and texture of their skin rapidly to provide natural camouflage. When threatened, a cuttlefish will squirt sepia ink into the water and hurry away using a form of jet propulsion.

Cuttlefish glide through the water by gently rippling their skirt-like fins.

BEGINNER LEVEL  ::  DRIFT DIVE / STATIONARY DIVE (CORAL GARDEN)

CuttlefishThis divesite is located on the east side of the island, in the Pacific Ocean.  It has a gentle slope and is one of the few dives in Palau with a distinct bottom.  Currents are not much of an issue on this dive, as the reef is well protected.

Cuttlefish are a consistent feature at Ngerchong - if the timing is right, it is possible to observe them laying eggs. There are not many sharks at this site, but white tip reef sharks can often be found sleeping on the sandy bottom. Octopus, nudibranchs, and blue girdled angelfish can be seen here, as well as the many varieties of coral from which the site takes its name.  Longnose filefish and eagle rays are also found here.

With little current and good visibility, the coral garden here is an ideal location to break out the mico lense and get up close to the smaller inhabitants.
