HAWKSBILL TURTLE

BEGINNER LEVEL  ::  DRIFT DIVE / WALL DIVE
Leopard SharkFor turtles and sting rays, German Dropoff can't be beat.  Although this dive isn’t as precipitous as Big Dropoff - at times it slopes and other times it's more of a wall, it's still a very exciting dive.  It's rare at German Dropoff not see at least one turtle during the dive.  Both hawksbill and green turtles can be found sleeping on the wall or even eating among the coral.  At a certain point on the wall, around 80 feet (24 meters), there is a sloping sandy patch where sting rays are often seen - and sometimes even leopard sharks, which can be fairly large, but are docile.  There are also some very nice hard coral formations, as well as the occasional white tip shark, and schools of fusiliers and jacks.

This is a good dive at any time, but is best when the visibility is good.  It can get murky on an outgoing tide, since it is very near to German Channel.  The proximity of these two sites make them a terrific morning-lunch-afternoon outing without the need to travel far between dives.
